Alocasia Aegis
The Alocasia Aegis is a rare and striking aroid that commands attention the moment it enters a room. Named after the mythological shield, this plant lives up to its name — its large, shield-shaped leaves are a deep, lustrous green with bold, contrasting venation that makes each leaf look like a work of art. A true collector's trophy.
Native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, the Aegis is a statement plant that rewards attentive care with dramatic, fast-growing foliage. Each new leaf unfurls with an almost theatrical presence, growing larger and more impressive than the last. If you're building a rare aroid collection, this one belongs in it.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright indirect light; avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch the leaves
- Water: Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry between waterings; consistent moisture without waterlogging
- Humidity: Thrives in 60–80% humidity; use a humidifier or group with other plants
- Temperature: Ideal range 18–30°C; protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 15°C
- Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix (perlite, orchid bark, coco coir)
- Fertiliser: Balanced liquid fertiliser fortnightly during the growing season
