Ctenanthe Burle-Marxii

The Ctenanthe Burle-Marxii — affectionately known as the Fishbone Prayer Plant — is a compact, collector-favourite with some of the most intricate foliage in the prayer plant family. Its pale grey-green leaves are decorated with bold, dark green fishbone markings, while the undersides reveal a striking deep purple. Like all prayer plants, it folds its leaves upward at night in a mesmerising daily ritual.

• Light: Medium to bright indirect light; avoid harsh direct sun which will bleach the markings
• Water: Keep soil evenly moist; allow the top 1–2 cm to dry slightly between waterings — sensitive to fluoride, so filtered or rainwater is ideal
• Humidity: Prefers 60%+ humidity; thrives near a humidifier or in a bathroom
• Soil: Well-draining, moisture-retentive mix (coco coir or peat based)
• Temperature: 18–27°C; keep away from cold drafts and air conditioning vents
• Pet-friendly: Yes — non-toxic to cats and dogs
