Calathea Insignis

The Calathea Insignis — also known as the Rattlesnake Plant — is one of the most dramatic and eye-catching members of the Calathea family. Its long, wavy leaves are decorated with alternating dark and light green markings on top, and a rich burgundy-purple underside that catches the light beautifully. Watch the leaves rise and fold at dusk as part of its natural nyctinastic movement — it's a living work of art.

• Light: Medium to bright indirect light; avoid direct sun which will fade the markings
• Water: Keep soil evenly moist; allow the top 1–2 cm to dry between waterings — use filtered or rainwater if possible
• Humidity: Thrives at 60%+ humidity; mist regularly or use a pebble tray
• Soil: Well-draining, moisture-retentive potting mix
• Temperature: 18–27°C; sensitive to cold drafts and air conditioning
• Pet-friendly: Yes — non-toxic to cats and dogs
